Father and teenage daughter shot dead inside their Delft home

“Members of the Anti-Gang Unit reacted to information about firearms that will be delivered in the Delft area.

Police are investigating a double murder after a father and his teenage daughter were killed inside their home.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said Delft police responded to a complaint of a shooting in Nata court, Leiden, Delft on Friday night.

A 42-year-old man and his 19-year-old daughter sustained fatal gunshot wounds.

"According to reports the victims were at home when they heard gunshots on the outside of their house.

"Unknown gunmen then entered the house, shot the male and female before fleeing the scene," said Twigg.

"Both victims were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel."

A 40-year-old woman escaped unharmed.

He said Delft detectives are investigating murder and attempted murder cases.

Meanwhile, police confirmed the arrest of a suspect for the illegal possession of an assault rifle and ammunition on Saturday night.

“Members of the Anti-Gang Unit reacted to information about firearms that will be delivered in the Delft area. The members conducted foot patrols and vehicle check points and stopped a silver Ford Fiesta. Upon searching the vehicle the members found a AK47 assault rifle and 120 x 7.62 rounds of ammunition in the vehicle,” Twigg said.

A 35-year-old man was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ court once charged.

Also on Saturday, members of Operation Restore deployed in the Delft policing precinct due to ongoing shooting in the area, were conducting stop and search operations in Wingnut Road, Thebulitsha, Delft when they searched a man and found a 9mm pistol with ammunition in his possession.

“The members asked him for a firearm license or permit but he could not produce any,” Twigg said.

The 44-year-old man was arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition and is due to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ court today.
