2014 Corvette offered on eBay

eBay's a wonderful place to go window-shopping and occasionally, if you're very savvy and very, very lucky, pick up a bargain - as long as you don't get scammed into putting your money where somebody else's mouth is.

Here's a case in point.

A person called shawn4842 says he's auctioning a brand new seventh-generation 2014-model Chev Corvette - which doesn't even officially exist yet. GM has yet to release any details on the C7 'Vette (although there are a few spy shots of heavily-disguised test mules floating around the cybergarage) and the pictures you see here are renderings by artist Radovan Varicak for Car&Driver.

Unsurprisingly, shawn4842 doesn't give much information about the car.

All he tells us is that it will have a V8 engine and a six-speed transmission (auto or manual - your choice). The proud purchaser also gets to specify whatever options he wants before the car actually gets built, presumably in the third quarter of 2013.

Nevertheless he's actually accepting deposits on the car - with the balance to be paid on delivery - based on the premise that if (if!?) the deal falls through he gets to keep 10 percent of the deposit.

And if that doesn't make you smell something fishy, consider this: If, by some mischance, the offer is for real, what's in it for shawn4842?

Absolutely nothing, that's what. He won't make a cent on the deal.

Always remember the golden rule of eBay: If it sounds too good to be true, it is.
