South African National Parks (SANParks) has announced an extension of free access to selected national parks as part of the 19th annual SA National Parks Week.

The week will officially begin with a celebratory event at Marakele National Park on September 8.

Free entry will be available from September 9 to 13, with additional access granted on September 14 and 15 at certain parks.

During this period, visitors will have free access to most of the 21 national parks managed by SANParks. However, it’s important to note that this offer does not extend to accommodation or other tourist activities within the parks.

To find out when each park will be observing SA National Parks Week, and to check which parks will be extending their free access, visitors are encouraged to visit the SANParks website.

Since its launch in 2006, National Parks Week has attracted a significant number of day visitors to participating parks. SANParks utilises this initiative to promote pride in South Africa’s natural, cultural, and historical heritage, all of which are preserved within the national parks system.

The campaign has proven successful in raising awareness about conservation in South Africa, highlighting the country’s inclusive approach to protecting its natural resources.

National Parks Week offers the public an opportunity to experience South Africa’s rich natural and cultural heritage while also showcasing sustainable development efforts supported by partnerships with local communities, businesses, scientists and tourists.
