If you found yourself anywhere near Sable Square this past weekend, chances are you caught the buzz and maybe even snagged a killer deal or two.

Loot.co.za and Sable Square China Town teamed up for a two-day Mandela Month Charity Sale that brought the spirit of giving (and a whole lot of shopping bags) to Milnerton.

From kids’ toys to books, beauty buys, and arts and crafts galore, Loot slashed prices across all its fan-favourite categories. The result? A shopping frenzy that felt more like a festival with bonus karma points. Proceeds from selected sales are going straight to local charities supporting education, community development, and early childhood programmes.

Set in the ever-popular Sable Square Shopping Village home to China Town and its treasure trove of value shops and imports the event drew families, deal hunters, and curious passersby into its sunny, open-air setup. Free parking? Check. Great weather? Double check. Feel-good community vibes? Off the charts.

“Loot’s charity event gave me the chance to shop smartly and do something good at the same time,” shared customer Zandile M. “It felt like more than a sale it felt like we were all part of something bigger.”

“Mandela Month is a time to give back and reconnect with community values,” said Kyle King, Head of Marketing at Loot.co.za.“Partnering with Sable Square China Town allows us to bridge cultures, unite communities, and make giving back both joyful and impactful.”

“We’re proud to partner with Loot for this Mandela Month initiative,” added Yi Zhang, spokesperson for Sable Square China Town. “Our vision has always been to create a space where diverse communities come together not just to shop, but to celebrate culture, support small businesses, and uplift one another. This Charity Sale embodies all of that.”

And while the energy was electric and the savings undeniable, for many shoppers the true reward came from being able to stretch their budget while making a difference.

“As a mom of three, back-to-school season can be really tough on the wallet,” said Janine M, one of the weekend’s early-bird shoppers. “Thanks to the charity sale, I was able to stock up on stationery and supplies for my kids without breaking the bank and knowing it’s also going to a good cause made it even more worthwhile.”

“I picked up a stack of books I’ve had my eye on for ages,” said Martin J, a pensioner from Table View. “Books can get pricey, especially on a fixed income. What Loot’s doing here offering real value while honouring Madiba’s message of giving it’s a beautiful thing.”

The Deals Were Hot, the Vibes Were Warmer – and Someone’s Walking Away with a Brand-New Instant Pot!

Garreth Alexander, a Loot staff member who volunteered at the event, added with a grin, “It was pure joy, honestly. Helping customers, seeing folks leave happy, knowing we’re making a difference it warms your heart. It’s the stuff community spirit’s made of!”

Still riding the high? There’s one more surprise in store. One lucky shopper who made a purchase and registered online is still in the running to win a brand-new Instant Pot Duo Crisp + Air Fryer, worth R3,999. Because nothing says “thanks for giving back” like crispy air-fried snacks on demand. Whether people came for the deals, the giveaway, or just to soak up some good Mandela Month mojo, one thing’s for sure: hearts were full, trolleys were fuller, and the community showed up in style.

Loot.co.za and Sable Square say a massive thank you to everyone who shopped, smiled, and supported. You made the weekend more than just a sale you made it a celebration.
