Mindport takes 70% as it merges with Noochee

Published

Johannesburg - Mindport IBS, the customer care and billing indirect subsidiary of Nasdaq-listed MIH Limited (MIHL) yesterday said it had merged with Noochee Solutions, a US-based Internet infrastructure and application software company.

Under the deal Mindport would control 70 percent of the merged company and the balance would be owned by the existing Noochee shareholders.

The merger places Mindport strategically with combined expertise in conditional-access, event-driven, real-time transaction billing, and e-business solutions for emerging Internet protocol and broadband service providers.

Allan Rosenzweig, the chief executive of Mindport and MIHL board director, said: "The combined entity of Mindport and Noochee will greatly accelerate our product development time and penetration of the market."

He said broadband technologies were so complex that operators would find it difficult to exploit the opportunities presented without the help of new tools and systems to deliver their content and services.

"We'll leverage our strengths and knowledge in security, conditional access, event billing, provisioning, broadband Internet and content management to establish a leading position in this emerging market."

Mindport supports all types of subscriber-based businesses, including pay-television operators, Internet service providers and data broadcasters. Its software handles about 7,5 million subscribers worldwide.

MIHL is majority owned by JSE Securities Exchange-listed MIH Holdings (MIH), which releases its results today.

MIH's stock closed 10,19 percent, or 275c, weaker at R24,25 on the JSE yesterday.
