New appointments and awards

l Ogilvy Group UK chairman and chief executive Gary Leih has been appointed to the worldwide board of Ogilvy & Mather. South African Leih (47) was group managing director of Ogilvy Africa from 2001 until May 2005, when he moved to run the UK Group. He had worked at Ogilvy in SA between 1980 and 1989. Ogilvy & Mather has 500 offices in over 100 countries worldwide. Owned by holding company WPP, it is one of the largest communications groups in the world. The UK Group comprises 11 companies, employs 1 250 people and is the country's largest communications group.

- Jason Slinger has been appointed MD of Lowe Bull Cape Town, having worked closely with acting MD and group MD Gillian Rightford, who is about to take maternity leave. Following her break, Rightford will return to focus on her role as group MD. "I've worked closely with Jason since my move to Cape Town, and I'm confident he has the energy, passion and expertise to take the Cape Town agency to the next level, in what will be an exciting phase," said Rightford.

- Kaya FM radio host Ed Jordan has become the TV personality for auction giant Aucor. Flighting for the first time this week on SABC2, the three-minute edutainment-style commercial, called Under the Hammer, shows Ed wielding a gavel, dishing out tips for successful bidding, extolling the virtues of turning used assets into big bucks and explaining how to get top dollar for fixed and movable assets. The ad is directed at sellers and buyers. It's the first time an auction company has lifted the veil off this age-old sales method and tried to dispel any negative myths.

- New Media Publishing has been awarded the contract to publish SOLD!, the quarterly property and lifestyle estate agent magazine. The magazine is the brainchild of SA's leading bond originator, MortgageSA and will be edited by Jackie Cameron with Andrew Nunneley appointed as publisher.
