A mine security car was torched and two buses stoned in Orkney on Wednesday, North West police said.
Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said about 7000 strikers at Anglo Gold gathered around 1am and intimidated non-striking workers.
The group stoned buses ferrying people to work and set alight a security car at the Itireleng and Mzomhle shafts.
“According to information received, nine bus passengers were injured and taken to a local hospital.”
Cases of arson and malicious damage to property were opened.
In Brits, 19 people were arrested for public violence after striking workers at furniture maker Pat Cornick barricaded a road leading to the factory with stones. He said workers had been on strike since October 8, demanding a salary increase and better working conditions. - Sapa
