Cape Town - SA Breweries is investigating a blaze at its premises on La Belle Road in Stikland on Sunday. Corporate Affairs Manager Sanele Gaqa saidon Monday morning that three trailers parked at the building were burnt out in the fire that started around 4.40pm.

“What started it? At the moment we are not entirely sure, we have an investigation going,” said Gaqa.

He said disaster management teams, responded in about 30 to 40 minutes.

While the damage was not “too serious”, Gaqa said, it was “still a pretty big fire”.

Last night, city fire services spokesman Theo Layne said it took three hours to douse the flames.

At the time, he said eight trailers and a truck had been damaged in the fire.

“Plastic crates, wooden pallets, one truck and eight trailers were on fire.”

Layne could not establish whether the trailers and truck were loaded with items at the time of the fire. He added that no injuries were reported.

When asked to confirm the trailer count this morning as it contradicted the damage reported by the brewery, Layne said the officer who had conducted the damage assessment was now off duty.
