Johannesburg - Hosken Consolidated Investments (HCI) announced on Friday that it had appointed long-serving director Velaphi Elias Mphande as chairman.
Mphande, 56, has been a member of the HCI board since 2010 and became a lead independent director in March 2014.
A qualified electrical engineer, Mphande has worked as a trade unionist and fulfilled a number of executive and board roles in the South African corporate sector.
He was the national organising secretary for the South African Clothing and Textile Workers Union (SACTWU) from the early to mid 90s and has been a marketing director of Viamax Fleet Solutions and CEO of the Vukani Group. Prior to joining HCI he chaired Golden Arrow Bus Service. He also serves on the board of Tsogo Sun and Vukani Gaming Corporation and etv.
