The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued urgent notifications regarding several critical vehicle recalls affecting popular models from Ford, BMW, Volkswagen, and Hino.
The recalls stem from safety concerns, with potential risks to drivers and passengers that warrant immediate attention.
The Ford Motor Company has initiated a recall for its iconic Ford Mustang, specifically affecting models produced between 2021 and 2022.
The issue lies with a low-pressure fuel pump that, if compromised, may result in a loss of fuel delivery to the engine.
This failure could cause the vehicle to stall while driving, posing a significant risk of accidents on the road.
The Ford Transit Custom is one of the vehicles being recalled.

Additionally, Ford Transit Custom vehicles made available from 2024 to 2025 are being recalled due to a defect involving the passenger's airbag. In a collision, the inflator filter may prevent gas from properly deploying the airbag, increasing the risk of injury.
BMW AG is also recalling its X3 (G45) series vehicles, where a manufacturing error has resulted in incorrectly produced outer head restraints on the rear seats.

In the event of an accident, these restraints may fail to provide adequate support, increasing the risk of severe injuries.
Meanwhile, Volkswagen of South Africa (VWSA) has identified a serious issue with its Polo models manufactured between 19 and 23 May 2025.
The rear axle has not been bolted with the required torque, which could lead to detachment from the body and a catastrophic loss of control while driving.

The Hino 500 buses have also been recalled.

Lastly, the Hino 500 series buses face a manufacturing defect involving a poorly torqued drag link, which is essential for steering control.
The recall affects vehicles produced between 5 July 2018 and 12 August 2025, and the absence of split pins exacerbates the potential for steering failure while on the road.
Owners of any of the affected vehicles are urged to take immediate action by visiting their nearest authorised dealership.
Necessary repairs will be conducted free of charge, ensuring the safety of consumers and their vehicles remains a top priority.
