Cashbuild revenue growth slows over the second quarter

The addition of new stores boosted Cashbuild's revenue growth in the second quarter to end December 31, 2025.

Cashbuild said revenue declined by 2% for its 309 existing building materials stores in the three months to December 28, 2025.

The share price fell by a sharp 5.3% to R149.51 on the JSE on Monday in early trade - a year ago the share price was trading at R197.84.

Cashbuild South Africa, the division that made up 83% of revenue and which managed to increase revenue 7% in its first quarter, saw only 1% growth in the second quarter, the listed Southern Africa retailer said in an operational update. The builder's holiday was between December 12 and December 31, 2025.

The Cashbuild Common Monetary Areas division reported 10% growth in the first quarter, and growth was flat in the second quarter.

The addition of 15 new stores compared with the same period a year before, contributed to 3% growth for the second quarter, which with the first quarter results, saw revenue increase by 3% for the half year.

Selling inflation was 0.8% at the end of December 2025 compared to the end of the half year stage of the previous year. South Africa's inflation rate at the end of the year was 3.6%.

The retailer that group revenue for the second quarter increased by 1% compared to the second quarter of the prior financial year. The update includes revenue results from Allbuildco Holdings, trading as Amper Alles, a subsidiary acquired with a 60% controlling interest, with effect from December 1, 2025.

Transactions through the tills in the second quarter increased by 2%, and by 4% over the half-year, over the comparative period, with existing stores decreasing by 1% in the quarter, and decreasing by 2% for the half year. New stores included, the number of transactions increased by 3% quarterly, and by 2% over a half year.

During the second quarter, 1 new store was opened, bringing the number to four over the half year period. One under-performing store was closed. Three Amper Alles stores were acquired, and the interest in two stores in Malawi was disposed of. This brought the total number of stores trading at half year end to 322.
