In a world where fashion and beauty are inextricably linked, it is no wonder that David Tlale, known famously as the king of gold himself, was asked to collaborate with a well-known cosmetics brand in the launch of their premium luxury range.
Designed specifically for the African skin, the Ponds Gold Radiance range of five products is infused with micro gold particles and Tlale was asked to reflect this concept in his luxury couture range of five garments – each designed to reflect a particular product.
Tlale is noted for his respect for the art of craftsmanship as well as catering for the African consumer and his garments were meant to reflect this.
Tlale says: “The radiance of a woman’s skin as gold reflects on it, surpasses any other colour. I understand the beauty of gold. What it evokes in women. It evokes royalty. It evokes presence. I am here. I am beautiful.”
The result was a showcase of five breathtaking garments as well as five pieces of jewellery launched at The Venue, in Johannesburg last week.
In conceptualising this collection Tlale says: “I’ve created couture pieces, complemented with beautifully crafted jewellery.
“Each piece is special – each one was crafted for a specific product in the range.
“The interpretation of each piece is different, their textures are different. But the underlying thread is gold and luxury.”
And what is Tlale going to do with the five bespoke creations now?
Over the next five months, starting this month, anyone who buys a Gold Radiance product through a beauty adviser store anywhere in South Africa, will stand in line to win a different garment and piece of jewellery each month.
