FlySafair has taken proactive measures to ensure that its flight schedule continues to operate without significant disruption, in spite of the industrial action their pilots have undertaken.
The airline confirmed on Tuesday that all flights scheduled for departure were proceeding as planned, providing a sense of normalcy for travellers amid ongoing strike actions by a segment of its pilot workforce.
Last week, FlySafair implemented a reduced flight schedule, effectively managing the effects of the industrial action. This decision appeared to have been a strategic move, allowing for smoother operations.
To keep passengers informed, the airline sent out timely notifications via SMS and email, utilising the contact details collected at the time of booking, ensuring that all affected customers were aware of any changes to their travel plans.
Despite some challenges, particularly two cancellations on Monday—FlySafair acted quickly, and passengers affected by the cancellations were reached out to and offered various options to rearrange their travel plans according to their preferences.
By Tuesday morning, all remaining scheduled flights were fully crewed and operating as normal, alleviating fears among travellers who depend on FlySafair. This operational stability is a welcome development, especially amidst ongoing reports of tensions related to the industrial action.
The airline was actively working towards resolving the situation, with a meeting scheduled on Wednesday with the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA).
The dispute has raised questions about FlySafair's engagement with the CCMA process; however, the airline has firmly stated that any claims implying a refusal to participate were unfounded. FlySafair has consistently engaged in discussions, as required to secure a protected strike certificate, and stressed its commitment to working with the CCMA in good faith.
For those wanting to check the status of their flights, FlySafair has made the process straightforward. Travellers can head to the "Manage My Booking" section of the airline's website or check the travel updates page for real-time information.
Additionally, teams stationed at airports were prepared to assist with re-bookings, refunds, and any alternative arrangements that may be necessary.
Kirby Gordon, Chief Marketing Officer at FlySafair, reassured passengers during this tumultuous time. “We know that travel disruptions can be incredibly stressful, especially when plans are made well in advance,” he noted.
“We’re truly sorry for the inconvenience this has caused and want to reassure our customers that we are doing everything in our power to restore full operations as quickly as possible."
He added that the team was working tirelessly to support affected customers while remaining committed to achieving a fair and sustainable resolution.
