The Madlanga Commission enters a pivotal final week of public hearings on Monday, with investigators expected to continue probing explosive allegations surrounding drug seizures, missing narcotics, and the handling of confiscated substances by South African law enforcement agencies in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

The hearings come ahead of a temporary adjournment, as the commission prepares its second interim report for submission to President Cyril Ramaphosa later this month.

Jeremy Michaels, spokesperson for the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into Criminality, Political Interference and Corruption in the Criminal Justice System, confirmed that proceedings from May 11 to 15 would continue focusing on drug seizures and allegations involving the theft and disappearance of narcotic substances.

“The Madlanga Commission’s hearings in the week ahead (11-15 May 2026) will continue to focus on drug seizures by South African law enforcement agencies, as well as the handling and theft or disappearance of narcotic substances in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng,” Michaels said.

He said testimony would continue from witnesses who appeared before the commission last week, including the in-camera evidence presented by Witness H on Friday.

“This is a continuation of the testimony of several witnesses last week, including the in-camera evidence of Witness H on Friday 8 May 2026,” he said.

Michaels confirmed that this would be the final week of public hearings before the commission temporarily adjourns to compile its second interim report.

“This is the last week of public hearings before the Commission breaks from May 18, 2026 to focus on its second Interim Report, which is due to be delivered to President Cyril Ramaphosa on 29 May 2026,” Michaels said.
