THE SA Social Security Agency (Sassa) expected to advertise the R10 billion tender for the distribution of social grants to 15 million beneficiaries in the next two weeks, it said yesterday. “It is envisaged that the tender will be published during the week of October 6 to 12, and the advertisement will appear in government printing, daily and weekly newspapers,” the agency said in its second progress report to the Constitutional Court. The court ruled at the end of last year that the tender awarded to Net 1 UEPS Technologies subsidiary Cash Paymaster Services was invalid, and ordered the agency to start afresh with the bid for the deal. The company was awarded the five-year contract worth R10bn in 2012, after beating competition from big banks including Absa’s AllPay subsidiary, which challenged the award. Net1 shares fell 0.73 percent to R148.90 on the JSE yesterday. It has a primary listing on the Nasdaq in New York. – Dineo Faku
