Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene. Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene.
Johannesburg- Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene is looking for your ideas on changing cities’ dynamics for better living conditions, reinforcing government support for export businesses and improving the country’s skills levels.
Announcing the Budget Tips 2015 campaign in the run-up to Budget day on 25 February, Nene yesterday said government sought to balance public finances, boost investment and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of public expenditure.
“Sustainable public finan-ces are fundamental to the continued transformation of our economy, because they are the foundation on which to build lasting social and economic progress,” said Nene, who will deliver his maiden budget next month.
In October’s medium-term budget policy statement (MTBPS), which adjusts government’s spending and signals spending priorities for the next three years, besides expenditure adjustments, indicated government cost cutting and also increased taxation.
The three areas Nene wants to hear Budget Tips 2015 ideas from citizens are:
- Changing the dynamics of cities to improve living conditions, modernise transport and communication infrastructure and expand economic activity;
- Reinforcing government support for exporting businesses to improve their competitiveness and, by doing so, increase the economy’s ability to create more jobs; and
- Improve the ability to expand the skills base.
