SASOL and The Lion Match Company had reached an agreement on the sale and purchase of Price’s Candles, a division of the petrochemical giant, which Sasol has owned since 2002, they announced yesterday. Although the sale price was not disclosed, the acquisition is subject to certain conditions being fulfilled, one of which is approval from the Competition Commission. Renowned as one of the country’s most trusted and reliable brands, Price’s Candles has been making candles at its Newtown premises in Johannesburg since 1910. Today, it is a leading producer of high-quality household candles and has expanded its product offering to include a wide range of decorative, fragranced and coloured candles. Sasol’s shares closed up 3.21 percent at R415.30 yesterday. – Wiseman Khuzwayo
