Musician Tebogo G. Mashego has not been arrested, according to online blog reports.
In a video that has since gone viral, Mashego is seen being taken into a police van forcefully and is seen trying not to enter.
Popular blogger Musa Khawula shared the video on his X account. He claimed that Mashego had been arrested for slander and defamation of character after a three-day social media rant.
Crime Watch SA explained that Laudium SAPS members were summoned to the scene as Mashego had "displayed abnormal behaviour and allegedly acted violently, assaulting people without apparent cause."
"In the interest of public safety, had to forcefully remove him from the community as he was visibly resisting."
Mashego was taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation, and one of the assaulted victims has opened a common assault case. Police investigations are underway.
The 23-year-old Amapiano musician has been a trending hot topic on social media thanks to his tearful live videos stemming from his trip to Nigeria.
In a series of emotional videos, a visibly distressed Tebogo expressed regret about his decision to go to Nigeria. He accused his team of mistreatment and claimed that many people owed him money for performances he had already completed.
In one video, Mashego appealed for donations to cover the cost of a flight ticket, revealing that his team had abandoned him and refused to pay him.
“Life is difficult. I told them that I didn't want to go to Nigeria. Please help me return home,” he pleaded.
The young musician finally made it back to South Africa thanks to the assistance of DJ Karri.
