It’s been a busy week in the entertainment world, from chaotic documentaries and music reveals to radio comebacks and viral moments.

Here’s what made headlines locally and abroad.

1. Kanye West's documentary offers a raw look at his life 

Kanye West, now Ye, released the trailer for his highly anticipated documentary, “In Whose Name”. The film promises an unfiltered look into his highs and lows, including his controversial statements, mental health struggles, and marriage to Kim Kardashian.

The minute-long trailer features brief appearances from Kardashian and their four children: North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm.

The documentary, compiled from 3,000 hours of footage over six years, highlights Ye’s creativity, paranoia, and intensity.

Ye did not have editorial control, leaving the story in the hands of film-maker Nico Ballesteros. According to producer Simran A. Singh, this ensures a raw and independent portrayal, allowing viewers to interpret events for themselves.

The film will be showing at cinemas from September 19.

2. Minnie Ntuli returns to the airwaves on Gagasi FM’s "The Uprising"

Back like she never left, radio presenter Minnie Ntuli has returned to her morning slot on “The Uprising” with co-host Felix Hlophe after stepping away in July. 

Her absence followed a heated clash on "The Real Housewives of Durban", where a confrontation with Londie London sparked tension. Fans have welcomed Ntuli’s comeback, praising her energy and presence on air.

South African music producer and DJ Kelvin Momo has apologised for missing his performance at the Sun City Resort over the weekend.

3. Kelvin Momo apologises for missing Sun City gig

Once again, the amapiano sensation was nowhere to be seen after being booked for a performance at Sun City. 

The event, part of their "Outside" series, required a last-minute adjustment when Momo did not arrive. He cited unforeseen circumstances and miscommunications and promised to prevent similar issues in the future.

Fans had previously voiced concern over Momo’s attendance at live shows, especially after he had missed three performances before. 

His apology acknowledged the disappointment caused and reaffirmed his commitment to professionalism going forward.

Doja Cat has officially announced her fifth studio album, “Vie”, set to drop on September 26.

4. Doja Cat announces fifth album, ‘Vie’

American rapper Doja Cat teased her fifth studio album, “Vie”, set for release on September 26. 

The project will explore romance and intimacy. The announcement came with a surreal teaser video in which Doja Cat holds a rose, whispers French phrases, and adds her playful, theatrical touch.

She also launched a “Vie" hotline for fans to hear her thoughts on love. 

Radio presenter, Pabi Moloi recently announced that she has left PowerFM a month ago.

5. Pabi Moloi leaves Power FM for new ventures

Award-winning radio presenter Pabi Moloi has stepped down from PowerFM, ending a decade-long run at the station. Moloi announced her departure on Instagram, expressing excitement for her next chapter.

She will now focus on hosting SABC3’s reality show “The Insurance Apprentice”, a competition show she joined in July, aimed at developing skills in the insurance sector. 

Moloi also runs a podcast with her brother, Khabane Moloi, called “It’s Brother and a Sister”, where they discuss life lessons, social media trends, and feature guest interviews. 

Fans took to social media to send support and good wishes for her new ventures.

6. Tyla and DJ Maphorisa top Spotify’s Global Impact List

Spotify Africa released the 2025 Global Impact List, celebrating South African music making waves internationally. 

Tyla appears with three hits, including WizTheMc’s “Show Me Love” and the “Push 2 Start” remix with Sean Paul. 

DJ Maphorisa leads the amapiano entries with five tracks, including collaborations with Kabza De Small and Toss.

The list highlights how South African music continues to expand globally, blending genres like hip hop, gospel and house.

According to Spotify, collaboration is key to this growth, showing how SA artists are reaching international audiences and influencing global music trends.

Media personality Sol Phenduka has been placed on suspension with immediate effect at radio station Kaya 959.

7. Kaya 959 suspends Sol Phenduka

Kaya 959 has suspended presenter Sol Phenduka, pending the outcome of an internal process. 

No reason was provided in the statement, surprising listeners. Phenduka has been a co-host on the breakfast show with Sizwe Dhlomo since Dineo Ranaka’s departure.

A Justin Bieber lookalike tricked everyone at a Las Vegas nightclub by performing for a large audience before he was discovered.

8. Vegas Bieber impersonator fools nightclub staff

A Justin Bieber impersonator managed to sneak into XS Nightclub at the Wynn Las Vegas, performing ten songs before being discovered. 

He and his crew convinced the club staff that the real Bieber would appear, leaving behind a $10,000 bar tab. The impersonator was banned for life from Wynn properties.

9. Lasizwe urges fans not to vote for the SASMAs nominations

Triple-nominee Lasizwe Dambuza asked fans not to vote for him in this year’s South African Social Media Awards. 

All categories at the SASMAs require paid votes. Supporters must spend a minimum of R10, which buys four votes.

He highlighted the cost of voting and said that appreciation from fans is more important than winning a trophy. Dambuza leads nominations alongside Big Brother Mzansi star Ashley Ogle.

South African Afro-pop duo Blaq Diamond have announced solo projects, sparking fan curiosity about the group’s future.

10. Blaq Diamond members launch solo projects

Afro-pop duo Blaq Diamond, made up of Ndu Browns and Danya Devs, are stepping into the solo route, giving fans a closer look at their individual artistry. 

Devs will release his new single, “1 Million”, on August 21, following his first solo effort, “Asambe”, in May. The song is described as a smooth love track that highlights his softer, melodic side.

Browns is also preparing his debut solo single, set to drop on his birthday, September 6. Sharing his excitement on Instagram, he described the upcoming release as a project he’s eager to share with fans.

Despite the solo ventures, both artists assured supporters that Blaq Diamond is still very much active. Devs clarified that the projects are about personal exploration and do not signal a break-up.
