Reality TV star and beauty mogul, Kim Kardashian, recently appeared on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, where she opened up about her relationship with her controversial ex-husband, Kanye West, and how his mental health struggles impacted their relationship.
Kardashian revealed that before deciding to file for divorce, she tried to make it work with the rapper even though it was difficult.
“I mean, I think that people can say that there were signs that I didn't pay attention to them. I think when someone has their first mental break [down], you know, you want to be super supportive and you wanna help figure that out. And you want to get into that and be there for them," she shared.
The Skims owner further implied that despite the continuous support she tried to give the father of her kids, he was not willing to make any changes to improve his mental health.
During the interview, she was asked if she considered staying despite the issues, and she shared that yes, she did and believed that things would be better.
“Yes, of course, or you wanna believe that for a little bit,” she said.
Kardashian further added that she thought of her children and wanted to set a good example for them about boundaries. She also said that she did not want to risk her mental health and not be a good parent to her children due to the situation with their father.
West and Kardashian tied the knot in 2014 and were considered an ideal couple since many people often referred to them as “couple goals” on social media.
From having a beautiful family, working together in most fashion campaigns with Kardashian being West’s muse for his brand, to how they would portray themselves on “Keeping Up With The Kardashians”, everything seemed perfect.
However, behind closed doors, people did not know how bad things were because Kardashian protected his reputation and hardly spoke up about their issues on their reality show despite West’s multiple mental breakdowns online.
It wasn’t until West started posting cryptic messages online about how the Kardashian family members were not good people, his wife’s secrets and a whole lot more jaw-dropping news that we started seeing the cracks in their relationship.
Due to how frequent the posts became, the public even got used to it, and many people ended up not taking it seriously until a trailer for his upcoming documentary “In Whose Name” was released, where we saw him having outbursts and screaming at the mother of his kids.
The documentary consists of 3 000 hours of never-before-seen footage that was captured over six years.
According to the producer of the documentary, Simran A. Singh, "This film presents a raw and often unsettling portrait, without commentary or conclusion, leaving viewers to interpret the events for themselves.
Kardashian and West divorced in 2022, and they have four children together: North, 12, Saint, 9, Chicago, 7, and six-year-old Psalm.
Kardashian shared that when she decided to divorce her ex-husband, she was worried that people would say that she left West because it got “too hard.”
“I thought that everyone is gonna be upset with me because I’m just leaving, and I wouldn't want someone to think that I was leaving because it got too hard. But there was just a lot in there that - for my soul I felt like I had to make that decision,” she shared
She further shared that there were so many factors that contributed to her leaving, such as not feeling safe emotionally and financially, not knowing what's going to happen next during one of West's episodes, the personal secrets being aired out and the things he would say about her family.
