Rapper DDG, whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., is reaching out to the mother of his child, Halle Bailey, through music, using his new song “17 More Years” to call for peace and reconciliation for the sake of their son, Halo.

The song appears on his latest album “Moo”, which he dropped in celebration of his 28th birthday on October 10.

“17 More Years” touches on the emotional toll of their breakup and custody battle.

On the song, Granberry raps about being “tired of the court dates” and “watching money go to waste,” before adding, “If we talk, it’ll get better, go ahead and drop the case.”

In another line, he reflects on their son’s milestones, saying, “We should all get together on his birthday, light the cake.” He also adds that they might as well get along because they have 17 more years to go.

The title “17 More Years” refers to the time left until Halo becomes an adult, with DDG suggesting they should find a way to co-parent peacefully.

The release comes after months of legal tension between the estranged couple. In June, Bailey was granted a temporary restraining order against DDG, citing a history of abuse.

She later filed for sole custody of their son, requesting that DDG’s visits be supervised once a week while Halo was in Los Angeles.

Court documents revealed that Bailey accused the rapper of becoming violent after their breakup. She claimed that he slammed her face into a steering wheel, leaving visible injuries.

He denied the allegations and filed his own restraining order request, claiming that Bailey had made threats of self-harm.

In her court declaration, Bailey said she had been open about her struggles with anxiety and depression but rejected DDG’s claims.

“I have been and remain 100% available and capable as a parent to our son, Halo,” she wrote.

“DDG has exaggerated, lied, and misconstrued for the court not only the history of our relationship but our parenting and my mental health.”

The legal battle continued when DDG filed an emergency motion in June to stop Bailey from taking Halo to Italy, saying he was concerned about her mental health.

Bailey responded by asking the court to deny his motion, explaining that the trip was for work and that she posed no risk to their child.

DDG and Bailey started dating in early 2022 and welcomed Halo in December 2023. They ended their relationship in October 2024 after months of public tension.

Bailey has not responded to the song, but fans have been sharing mixed reactions online. Some praised the rapper for being vulnerable, while others simply did not feel the song.

On the other hand, Bailey recently announced her debut album “Love? Or Something Like It”, which is set to be released on October 24.

Sharing the news on social media, she wrote, “Love? or something like it - my debut album. a story of first love, heartbreak, and everything that comes after. Out 10/24. This one means everything to me.”
