South African rapper and producer Yanga Chief has shattered streaming records with his latest single, “What If? (Mngani)”.

Within an astonishing 19 days of its release, the track has garnered over 1 million streams on Spotify, signifying not just a personal achievement for the artist but a testament to the rising tide of South African music on global platforms. 

Born Yanga Ntshakaza, the artist has consistently captivated audiences with his insightful lyrics. His latest single is no exception.

In a heartfelt reflection shared on social media, Chief expressed gratitude for the support he has received, stating, “When God does it, he will make it seem like it was overnight.”

This sentiment encapsulates the essence of an artist whose hard work and commitment are finally paying off in a significant way.

“What If? (Mngani)” is more than just a song; it serves as a profound exploration of life’s choices and their enduring consequences.

He stated, “Judging by your posts we are the strongest and most resilient people in the world. Nayithatha ingoma yam nayenza iyeza bafethu (You took my song and made it your own)."

His appreciation expanded beyond mere numbers as he added, “I thought going number 1 was the biggest reward but what I’ve seen from my people has touched me ngenye indlela (in another way)."
