The Cape Town drag queens are back, the lashes are longer, the tension thicker, and the shade cuts deeper.
The second season of Beaulah: Queens van die Kaap airs on DStv streaming on May 12, bringing viewers back into the glitter-soaked chaos of Cape Town’s drag world, where drama never stays backstage for long and loyalty shifts by the minute.
Following a fiery first season packed with emotional confrontation, broken friendships, and bruised egos, season 2 promises even more cracks in the sisterhood as new alliances are formed and old tensions resurface.
Beneath the wigs, sequins, and perfectly painted faces lies something deeper.
The show is produced by Pop24, the team behind producing reality shows like the Mommy club and SAFTA-nominated reality series Tollie & Manila, which gives viewers an unfiltered look into the lives behind the performances.
From the pageant pressures to the personal struggles and identity journeys, the queens are letting the viewers into the parts that usually stay hidden behind the glam and the spotlight.
Returning cast member BB Vhahlour says coming back for a second felt more personal.
“Returning for a second season feels like an opportunity to deepen the work we start and to grow alongside the audience,” she said.
Rising drag star among the three trans women featured on the show, said the series stays important in creating unity and visibility within the drag community. If viewers thought the first season was dramatic, Emogan Moore warns they have not seen anything yet.
“There is so much to look forward to this season, with many new and unexpected friendships forming and way more wigs, garments and drama;” he teased.
As for fan favourite Ina Propriette, the show represents more than entertainment.
“Drag gets another moment in the culture at the forefront,” he said.
“It’s been a dry spell and I’m just extremely excited to have my artform be a beacon for our community because we seriously missed and needed this.”
Meanwhile, Veteran queen Kat Gilardi pointed out that viewers should prepare for shocking behaviour from familiar faces.
“You will see how some people reveal who they truly are, but that shouldn’t come as a shock,” Kat said.
The new season highlights trans visibility through cast members like Madison Scarr and Maxine Wild, who say the platform has helped them tell their stories unapologetically.
“Beaulah has been and continues to be such an incredible platform for us to showcase who we are and I am excited for the audience to see the evolution in my trans journey and the personal challenges I've overcome as well as the fun, playful moments I've had with growing my drag,” Maxine said.
Reality TV audiences crave for authenticity and entertainment, Beauluh: Queens van die Kaap is coming back with both. If the trailer is anything to go by, no one is leaving this season untouched.
