Women’s Day in South Africa is more than just a date on the calendar, it’s a time to celebrate, connect, and reflect on the power, creativity, and resilience of women.

This year, venues across the country are marking August 9 with events that range from artful expression to fitness festivals, floral inspiration to beer-fuelled fun.

Whether you want to create, sweat, sip, or savour, here’s your guide to Women’s Day happenings worth adding to your diary.

Claim Your Seat at Zeitz MOCAA

Step into a world of creativity at the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) this Women’s Day with a morning of art-making and meaningful conversation.

Inspired by “One Must Be Seated”, the solo exhibition by Ghanaian-American artist Rita Mawuena Benissan, this guided workshop invites you to explore the seats you hold in life, and the ones you still wish to claim.

Participants will create miniature stools through drawing and crafting, reflecting on themes of power, belonging, and aspiration in a supportive space.

When & Where: Saturday, 9 August 2025, 10:00 AM for 10:30 AM – 2:30 PM, Scheryn Arena, Level 0, Zeitz MOCAA.

Cost: R600 per person; R300 for members (includes art materials, lunch, and beverages).

A Feast of Flowers and Flavour at Spice Route Destination

Paarl’s Spice Route Destination is serving up a Women’s Day filled with inspiration and indulgence at Jewell’s Restaurant.

The afternoon kicks off with a welcome glass of Méthode Cap Classique or a non-alcoholic alternative, followed by a three-course lunch showcasing the freshest seasonal produce.

Adding to the occasion, celebrated floral artist and Fleur le Cordeur founder Heike Hayward will share her journey as a creative entrepreneur and mother, offering heartfelt insights and tips for rekindling your own creative spark.

When & Where: Saturday, 9 August 2025, Jewell’s Restaurant, Spice Route Destination, Paarl.

Raise a Glass at SAB World of Beer

Think beer is just for the boys? Think again.

The SAB World of Beer in Johannesburg is challenging stereotypes with its annual Women’s Day beer tour special.

Women enjoy a discounted rate, plus a welcome drink on arrival – and while beer is encouraged, flavoured alternatives are available for those who prefer a lighter sip.

Manager Felicia Mokoena says it’s time to “debunk the stereotype that women prefer ciders – or even worse, wine!” Tours run throughout the week surrounding Women’s Day, offering a frothy mix of history, tasting, and fun.

When & Where: Saturday, 5 August – Saturday, 12 August 2025, SAB World of Beer, 15 Helen Joseph Street, Newtown, Johannesburg.

Cost: R95 per woman (discounted from R115).

Forget the brunch buffet - this Women’s Day is about movement, motivation, and muscle.

Hosted by Nutritional Performance Labs (NPL), FemmeFit Fest at Syringa Park, Avianto Estate, is South Africa’s ultimate women-only fitness and wellness celebration.

The morning features four powerhouse sessions: a HIIT blast with MoniqueFit, boxing with MissFit Boxing, dance with Fitness Icon SA, and yoga with Tidi to restore mind and body.

Each R395 ticket includes a goodie bag worth over R1,000, packed with health, beauty, and fitness treats.
