In a powerful demonstration of commitment to small business growth, Pick n Pay's Enterprise and Supplier Development (ESD) programme has marked a remarkable 44% year-on-year sales growth for its SMME partners.
This thriving initiative not only underscores the retailer’s ever-growing role in fostering local enterprises but also reinforces the broader economic impacts of integrating small businesses within its expansive supply chain.

CEO Sean Summers highlighted the synergistic relationship that exists, stating, “Our future growth depends on working hand-in-hand with small businesses to bring customers meaningful innovation at scale.”
With a focus on addressing the challenges and opportunities that small businesses face, the ESD programme has successfully onboarded an average of 10 new SMMEs each year, bringing its total to 146 locally sourced suppliers. This integration not only creates job opportunities but also expands consumer choices by introducing innovative, high-quality products from local entrepreneurs.
The conference served as a vibrant platform for dialogue, where the emphasis was placed on fostering a “strong ecosystem for growth.” Mark Bandi, SMME Executive at Pick n Pay, commented, “Our role is not only to provide shelf space but to enable small businesses to thrive. When our SMMEs succeed, our customers, communities, and economy succeed too.”
