BRICS: Putin urges information security

JOHANNESBURG - President Vladimir Putin promoted security for the expanding digital economy yesterday at an
emerging economies summit in Johannesburg.
The development of
the digital economy should be accompanied by security assurances
for businesses and individuals, Putin
said.
The two-day summit was dedicated to the economic development of BRICS nations. Putin said that he expected
a new office of the BRICS bank to be opened in Russia in the near future as the countries work to foster economic collaboration.
Putin was expected to meet a range of leaders at the summit, including his Turkish counterpart,
Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Turkey’s economy is comparable to that of a BRICS nation.
President Putin had intended at the summit to promote a multipolar world order, information security and efforts to counter terrorism, Russian state media reported, citing a Kremlin aide.
Major conflicts such as the Syrian civil war and attempts to denuclearise the Korean Peninsula were also expected to be discussed alongside efforts to promote trade and further economic development.
