JAZZ renaissance saxophonist Nubya Garcia just can’t seem to stay away from the Kaap.
Following her Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF) debut in 2019, the London-based musician is back on the bill this year.
Slated to play on Saturday, 26 April, Garcia is one of the artists of the vanguard of make jazz “cool” again.
In her early 30s now, she is currently on a tour of the USA, where she recorded the latest episode of NPR’s popular Tiny Deck Concerts.
She has produced the acclaimed albums, starting with her 2017 debut Nubya's 5ive,
2020’s Mercury Prize-nominated Source and last year’s Odyssey.
Citing John Coltrane as one of her music heroes, Ms Garcia started playing the sax when she received the instrument as a surprise present for her 10th birthday.
And she hasn’t looked back, blowing up the scene with her contemplative compositions.
