If you’ve spent any time scrolling through beauty TikTok or Instagram lately, you’ve probably noticed the glassy, lit-from-within skin of Hailey Bieber lighting up your feed.

But it’s not just her signature Rhode glaze or clever lighting.

According to online reports, the beauty mogul credits her supple glow to the famous beauty treatment going around in Hollywood, which is microneedling with salmon DNA.

This is a new treatment making waves in the beauty world, one that’s quietly redefining the meaning of a “glow-up.”

Welcome to the era of salmon DNA microneedling, a treatment that’s part cutting-edge science, part social media sensation and all about skin transformation.

The quest for youthful, radiant skin is as old as time. But what’s new is the science powering the latest celebrity facials.

From Kim Kardashian to beauty editors and everyday skincare lovers, people are raving about the results.

At the heart of this treatment is a new beauty trend, polynucleotides, which are long chains of molecules derived from salmon DNA, also called PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide).

What makes salmon DNA so buzzworthy?

It’s not just a “weird flex” ingredient for the headlines. Dermatologists and researchers are uncovering real science behind its ability to hydrate, repair and rejuvenate skin at the cellular level.

With Lumicen, we can work at the cellular level to repair, hydrate and rejuvenate the skin in ways that traditional treatments simply cannot achieve," explained Dr Tal Roudner, a Miami-based plastic surgeon, to TZR

What exactly is salmon DNA microneedling?

Salmon DNA microneedling is a two-step innovation in skin rejuvenation.

First, a dermatologist or trained professional uses a microneedling device to create microscopic channels in your skin. This process alone is known to stimulate collagen and elastin, the proteins that keep your skin plump and firm.

But here’s the twist: After microneedling, a serum rich in purified salmon DNA is applied. These polynucleotides can now penetrate more deeply, reaching the layers of skin where real change happens.

According to Dr William Harris, a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon and medical director at Formula Fig, “The treatment uses purified salmon sperm DNA topically in combination with microneedling to allow the benefits of the salmon DNA to penetrate the skin’s surface and promote collagen and elastin stimulation.”

How does it work and why is it different?

The magic lies in the synergy.

Microneedling creates tiny injuries, prompting your skin’s natural healing response. When you add salmon DNA to the mix, you’re supercharging this process.

Research published in Dermatologic Surgery has shown that PDRN can:

  • Stimulate fibroblast activity (the cells responsible for producing collagen).
  • Increase skin thickness and elasticity.
  • Improve hydration and reduce inflammation.
  • Enhance the appearance of fine lines, scars and hyperpigmentation.

This isn’t just a short-term fix. Long-term, consistent treatments may actually slow visible skin aging, delaying the need for more aggressive therapies.

What results can you actually expect?

Let’s get specific. Here’s what users and dermatologists are seeing:

  • A dewier, plumper complexion, think that “glass skin” finish.
  • Reduction in fine lines, wrinkles and dullness.
  • Improved tone and texture, with fewer dark spots and less redness.
  • Refined pores for smoother, softer skin.
  • Minimal downtime, most people return to their routine within a day.

One 2022 clinical study in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology found that PDRN treatments led to significant improvements in skin elasticity, hydration and brightness after just a few sessions.

“There is also thought to be hydration and anti-inflammatory benefits associated with salmon DNA,” Dr Harris added.

Safety is always top of mind, especially with anything new.

The salmon DNA used in these treatments is purified and non-pathogenic, meaning it’s free from harmful substances and allergens.

Still, like any in-office procedure, it’s crucial to seek out board-certified dermatologists or reputable medical spas.

This treatment may be especially appealing if you’re dealing with:

  • Early signs of aging (late 20s and up).
  • Acne scars or uneven texture.
  • Dehydrated, tired-looking skin.
  • A desire to maintain that “youthful glow” without injectables.

Collagen production naturally declines as early as your late 20s, leading to fine lines and a loss of that youthful bounce.

Salmon DNA microneedling offers a chance to get ahead of the curve, supporting your skin’s repair mechanisms now so you can age on your own terms later.
