Here’s a thought that will make every man cross his legs.

Did you know that you can actually “break” your penis?

It sounds impossible, like something out of a bad joke, but it is a very real and very painful injury.

And the worst part is that it often happens in the middle of what was supposed to be a mind-blowing night.

One second, you are on cloud nine, and the next, you are on your way to the emergency room, wondering how to explain what just happened.

What is a penile fracture?

A penile fracture happens when there is a tear in the tunica albuginea, the tough tissue that surrounds the spongy chambers inside the penis.

These chambers are what fill with blood to create an erection, which means they are under pressure during sex and more vulnerable to injury.

Most fractures happen during vigorous sex when the penis slips out and hits the partner’s pelvis or perineum with force.

That sudden bend can cause a painful tear. Many men report hearing or feeling a pop, followed by immediate swelling, bruising, and intense pain.

Risky positions

Some positions are riskier than others.

Doctors often warn that “woman on top” or “reverse cowgirl” carries the highest risk.

In these positions, if the penis slips out and bends at the wrong angle, the weight of the person on top can cause serious damage.

That said, accidents can happen in other positions too, especially during rough or fast-paced sex.

Without quick medical attention, a penile fracture can lead to long-term complications such as erectile dysfunction, curvature, or painful erections.

How to prevent it

While accidents cannot always be avoided, you can lower your risk with a few precautions:

  • Communicate with your partner and slow down if things feel too rough.
  • Avoid aggressive thrusting, especially in positions where you have less control.
  • Pay attention to angles and stop if something feels off or uncomfortable.
  • Stay focused because losing concentration increases the chance of an accident.

A penile fracture is not something you can just walk off. If you ever hear that telltale pop or feel sharp pain during sex, seek medical attention immediately.

Early treatment usually means a full recovery, while delays can lead to lasting problems.

Sex is supposed to be fun, but a little caution can save you from a story you definitely do not want to tell.
