South African content creator and beauty influencer, Mihlali Ndamase, is facing public backlash after she shared details of her make-up masterclass, including the ticket price.

Ndamase announced that she will be hosting her masterclass, Beauty and The Beat, this month, and tickets, which retail at R3,500 per person, sent tongues wagging about how expensive the ticket is.

While others expressed that the festive season is almost here, she chose the wrong time to host the masterclass, considering the state of our economy.

“A make-up masterclass in 2025??? Also, 3,5K in Cyril’s economy is disgusting,” an X user wrote.

“3,5K is too expensive. She should have held it online and made it R350 per person. That way, more attendees,” another user commented.

While another user added, “And my girlies will buy that ticket, chile just to learn how to apply concealer when there’s a million YT (YouTube) videos.”

However, some of her fans came to her defence, sharing that you will walk away with the skills and probably a make-up kit worth that same amount of money.

“If bekuthiwa Brazilian hair is R3,500 bengeke ukhuze (if it was Brazilian hair worth R3,500, you were not going to complain), but to develop your skills and network with your peers, the amount is a lot,” a user shared.

Another user commented: “Can people stop complaining. It’s a masterclass. R3,500 is reasonable to gain new skills that will make you money. You will exponentially get the money back.”

While Ndamase is being criticised for hosting a make-up masterclass in 2025, she is not the only one who is doing it since we have a lot of big brands such as L’Oreal, Fenty Beauty, MAC and more that are still hosting masterclasses.

The L’Oreal make-up masterclass has grown to a huge event in SA where content creators and make-up enthusiasts get together to learn how to improve and apply their make-up better.

The event is also hosted by SA’s media darling, Bonang Matheba, alongside British content creator, Uche Natori.

Even though the price for the masterclass ticket is quite expensive, most of the time, attendees walk away with goody bags that consist of products that are worth more than the ticket price.
