Though reactions to the announcement of the partnership between the South African Football Association (SAFA) and adidas have been mixed, many fans and fashion enthusiasts are eager to see the new kits that will emerge from this collaboration.

Following Bafana Bafana's impressive 3-0 victory against Rwanda, which secured their qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to be hosted by the US, Mexico, and Canada, SAFA and adidas unveiled their partnership.

This agreement will see both Bafana Bafana and Banyana Banyana donning adidas kits for the next three years.

“With Bafana Bafana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup™ and Banyana Banyana’s continued rise in women’s football, adidas and SAFA are uniting to celebrate a new generation of South African excellence.

"Together, we will carry forward the message that has become adidas’ rallying call: ‘You Got This’,” stated adidas.

Lydia Monyepao, CEO of SAFA, said this partnership goes beyond mere sponsorship; it represents a return to shared values of pride, resilience, and performance.

"Adidas has long been a part of our football narrative, and together we aim to inspire South Africans everywhere to believe in their potential.

"This collaboration also strengthens our position within the global football community as we regularly compete in FIFA and CAF tournaments, supported by a brand that invests in innovation, performance, and style to meet the needs of a modern sports organisation."

Sam Handy, vice president of product and design at adidas football, said football has the power to change lives while uniting and inspiring.

"Adidas has a proud and rich football heritage, pioneering products for the best teams and athletes around the world. We are proud to stand alongside Bafana Bafana, Banyana Banyana, and other SAFA teams as they represent the spirit of South Africa on the international stage.”

Social media has seen a variety of reactions from X users following the announcement.

One user, @IsaacKgafela, commented, “At least our players can have their dignity back now, instead of wearing those Christmas clothes on the field.”

Another user, @g_stober, expressed a more critical view: “Adidas is that chick who loves you only when you’re financially stable and dumps you when you face uncertainty, but otherwise, welcome back.”

Meanwhile, @MybubaG stated, “This partnership marks a new chapter of excellence and shared vision. Adidas joins us not only as a sponsor but as a true partner in driving passion, performance, and national pride. Together, we aim to inspire greatness - on and off the field. Make our nation proud.”

SAFA and their former technical sponsor since 2000, Le Coq Sportif, recently announced the conclusion of their partnership.

“Our relationship began with many challenges but inspired significant on-field success for all our national teams, particularly our senior teams, Bafana Bafana and Banyana Banyana,” said Monyepao.

Adidas has hinted that fans and players can look forward to the iconic Three Stripes adorning the kits for all South African football teams starting from March 24, 2026.

This offer will encompass match wear, training and pre-match apparel, travel ranges, and a comprehensive fan collection.

While the new shirt has yet to be released, fans can expect the traditional green and gold theme to prevail.

With that in mind, here are some styling tips for the streets:

Wear it baggy

Oversized t-shirts and baggy jeans can make a fashion statement. Your new Bafana jersey can be paired with baggy shorts, oversized jeans, or cargo pants for a trendy look.

Accessorise

Accessories are a fantastic way to make a statement. Consider adding a chain, sunglasses, or a bucket hat to support your team.

Kicks

A good pair of sneakers can elevate your outfit. Pair the green and gold jersey with fresh white sneakers or opt for a more subdued look with black sneakers.
