The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has seized assets from the luxury Sandton home of businessman Hangwani Maumela, who has been linked to the Tembisa Hospital R2 billion tender scandal.
The SIU confirmed in a post on its official X account that it was carrying out an operation at a Sandhurst home connected to its #TembisaHospitalCapture investigation.
It said the operation was part of “implementing investigation outcomes and managing consequences”.
“Further updates will follow once legal processes are complete.”
The operation comes after the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said in a statement in September that the AFU had obtained preservation orders against two members of syndicates linked to the alleged fraud and corruption at Tembisa Hospital.

It has been reported that seized assets include high-end vehicles including Lamborghinis and valuable artwork.
In its interim report on the Tembisa Hospital tender scandal, the SIU found that syndicates bypassed standard tender processes to loot Tembisa Hospital of more than R2 billion.
The three main syndicates identified by the SIU were the Maumela syndicate, Mazibuko syndicate and syndicate X.
The SIU report stated that the Maumela syndicate is linked to businessman Maumela, who is the nephew of President Cyril Ramaphosa through a previous marriage and the Mazibuko syndicate is linked to Rudolph Mazibuko, while investigations are continuing into X syndicate.
