The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced that certain models of the Belkin Boost Charge USB-C power banks 20k and Auto Tracking Stands Pro with dock kit have been recalled by Belkin Limited (Belkin).

The NCC said in a statement that these devices use lithium-ion battery cells to charge electronic devices on the go. It said the affected products were made available for sale globally through online platforms from 15 January 2023.

The commission said that according to Belkin, a manufacturing defect may cause the products’ lithium-ion cell components to overheat, which could pose a fire hazard to consumers.

“Consumers who have the affected power banks in their possession are advised to discontinue use of the product with immediate effect. Belkin has made dedicated recall pages available to guide consumers through the verification and return process. Individuals with the affected units will receive either a full refund or a replacement, at the consumer’s election,” the NCC said.

In a statement on its website, Belkin said consumers who have purchased the Belkin Auto-Tracking Stand Pro model number MMA008, BoostCharge USB-C PD Power Bank 20K model number BPB002 or Playa USB-C PD Power Bank 20K model number PB0003, must stop using the product, disconnect it from any power supply or other products, and contact the company for further instructions.

“Place your BPB002, PB0003 and/or MMA008 in a safe, dry location away from anything flammable or anything that can damage the power bank.”
