Harking back to the 1970s, Porsche has unveiled a retro-styled 911 called the 911 Spirit 70 at the Shanghai Auto Show and according to Porsche, a lucky few will be able to own one locally.

It is the third Heritage Design model following the first 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition in 2020, in the style of the 1950s and early 1960s and the 911 Sport Classic that revived the style of the 1960s and early 1970s.

It will have a limited run of 1 500 units.

Engine

The 911 Spirit 70 is based on the current 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet with Porsche's new 3.6-litre turbocharged hybrid flat-six engine with an eTurbo system and an electric motor integrated into the dual-clutch PDK transmission producing 398kW and 610Nm.

Exterior

The designers and paint experts at Porsche created “Olive Neo” exclusively for the Spirit 70. The lower rear section, front section and the Sport Classic wheels in ‘Fuchs’ design are offset with Bronzite with a black soft top and windscreen frame.

Three black silk gloss stripes run across the bonnet reminiscent of the safety stickers from the 1970s and are continued tone-on-tone on the soft top.

The side decorative graphics with Porsche lettering and round start number field in black silk gloss and individual start number are a nod to the brand’s sporting tradition.

The bonnet bears a Porsche crest that is almost identical to the historic crest from 1963 while the Porsche Heritage badge sits on the grille of the boot lid, designed to be reminiscent of the badge on the Porsche 356.

The gold-coloured Porsche lettering and the model designation at the rear shine brightly as a result of the galvanised gold-plated surface.

Interior

In the interior Porsche’s Pasha fabric pattern quilted in black/olive neo with textile flock yarns is found on the seats, door cards and inside the glovebox.

The instrument cluster, although digital, can be set to feature classic analogue gauges replete with green numbers and white needles reminiscent of the Porsche 356.

Porsche is also offering a new app for the Apple Vision Pro, allowing users to immerse themselves in the 70s and design their dream vehicle, customising the Porsche 911 Spirit 70 while gaining insights into the designs of the 1970s.

Orders for the 911 Spirit 70 are open and can be yours for R5 056 000.

It comes with a three-year/100 000km Driveplan.
