If you’re in the market for a double cab bakkie and size really matters, you might want to take a look at the new LDV Terron 9.
With an overall length of 5,500mm and 2,265mm width, the Terron 9 is significantly larger than the Ford Ranger (5,350mm long) and Toyota Hilux (5,325mm), beaten only by the Jeep Gladiator that stretches to 5,591mm.
The Chinese-owned British brand, which stands for Leyland DAF Vans, will launch its new supersized pick-up at the Festival of Motoring at Kyalami Raceway on August 28.
Pricing and specifications remain under wraps until the show later this month, but the new LDV product is rumoured to start under R800,000. It will slot above the current LDV T60 double cab range, which is priced from R480,000 to R790,000.
The Terron 9 is powered by a 2.5-litre turbodiesel engine.

Power comes from a 2.5-litre turbodiesel engine, which produces 163kW and 520Nm, making it the most powerful diesel Chinese bakkie to date in South Africa. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Not surprising, given its size, the Terron 9 tips the scales at 2.4 tonnes, and the payload is listed at 1.1 tonnes. It also boasts a braked towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes.
The Terron 9 will be available in three specification grades: Elite, Luxury, and Premium, all promising “premium” interior finishes.
The cockpit could make rivals appear dated with its 12.3-inch floating dual screens. It is also equipped with a 60:40 split folding rear seat and the cabin features over 30 storage compartments.
Doesn't look like a bakkie inside, does it?

Top-end versions in overseas markets offer luxuries such as heated front and rear seats and even a heated steering wheel.
“Exciting times are near as we prepare to launch the Terron 9 at the end of August, starting off with an exclusive sneak peek, we are excited to bring this powerhouse to the South African market.” said LDV SA’s CEO Bevan Nel, after staging a preview event late last week.
