The final phase of the Thank Our Firefighters project, started by the Fish Hoek Lions Club, is now under way.
The club is asking the public to donate things that will make firefighters’ time on duty more productive and pleasant.
For a list of the items, contact the club's vice president, Lauren Winder, by WhatsApp at 083 508 9508 or email info@fishhoeklions.co.za.
The project was launched on International Firefighters’ Day on Saturday May 4 in response to the devastating fires during the 2023/4 season and the efforts by local fire services to contain them.
Ms Winder said the club wanted to thank the Fish Hoek, Simon’s Town, Kommetjie and Lakeside fire brigades for their hard work and dedication.
Over Saturday and Sunday, May 4 and 5, several restaurants supported the far south firefighters with everything from discounts to free beers and burgers, and throughout the month, the public could drop off donations at various shopping centres, including shower gel, biscuits, rusks, sweets, and hot chocolate.
The emphasis, Ms Winder said, was on gifts conveying thanks, instead of practical items to be used for firefighting.
