Sandra Dee, middle, the founder of the Fairy Godmother Princess Project, an initiative that assists underprivileged matriculants look their best for their balls, is gearing up for this year’s season. The project has hundreds of dresses, shoes and accessories, as well as men’s outfits, available for rent at a nominal fee. Ms Dee said so many parents spend thousands of rands on their children’s matric balls, and often get into huge debt because of it. “I understand that all parents want the best for their children, but putting yourself in debt is not wise. Our children can still look great while on a low budget with the outfits available from the project, ” she said. With Ms Dee is Mawahda Claasen, left, and Aabiedah Carelse, who came to select their evening wear for an upcoming event.
