Drilling works are currently under way in the Silvermine Wetland and will continue until Monday January 13 and again from Monday January 20 until Friday February 28 next year to reroute electrical cables and secure the electrical supply in Clovelly, Sun Valley, Fish Hoek, Kommetjie, and surrounding areas. The power supply to the valley relies on cables running through the collapsed bridge in the wetland. In October, the Echo reported that drilling work would be done during working hours and not on weekends or public holidays (“Drilling to move wetland power cables to start soon,” Echo, October 18). However, the City said contractors had extended the the work period to ensure sufficient progress was made by mid-December. Residents are notified of possible noise that may be experienced during this period as drilling will take place during weekdays from 8am till 8pm and on Saturdays from 8am till 6pm. There will be no drilling on Sundays or public holidays. Residents would have electricity supply while the work was carried out, said the City. Picture: Ward councillor Izabel Sherry.
