A new pavement is being built along Valley Road between Westerford Way and the intersection of Park Avenue, Avenue De Chavonnes and Valley Road.
Work on a new pavement in Hout Bay has drawn a mixed response from residents.
The path is being built along Valley Road between Westerford Way and the intersection of Park Avenue, Avenue De Chavonnes and Valley Road.
The work is taking place on weekdays from 8am until 4pm and from 9am to 3pm on weekends.
The work will include the installation of new stormwater channels, barrier kerbing and edging, according to mayoral committee member for urban mobility Roberto Quintas.
“Valley Road is a popular route used by pedestrians. However, the existing verge at Valley Road is not suitable for both pedestrians and vehicles, making these upgrades a priority to enhance the safety and accessibility for the community,“ said Mr Quintas.
However some have expressed mixed feelings on a Hout Bay community Facebook page about the work.
Frith Stables commented: “Council promised a meeting for further discussions as the gulley installed between Westerford and Harmony is too steep and dangerous for horses.
“Valley Road is too narrow and dangerous considering how much motor traffic use the road including large delivery trucks.“
Matthew de Haast said: “Why is this the most important thing money is being spent on? We have pipe bursts on a weekly basis, yet still no water infrastructure upgrade. Sewerage water running down into the traffic circle for years, nothing being done about it. A new sidewalk is nice, but what about the priorities?“
