Blouvlei special needs school in Retreat hosted an open market day on Saturday, April 12, with the aim of introducing the school to the community.
Juleigah Majiet, coordinator of the event, said: “Our main emphasis was on showing the strengths of our differently abled learners. Our award-winning drilling team started the day off with a march from Retreat Road down 6th Avenue and showed us their coordination skills with a show to entertain our visitors. We also had our table tennis players who represented Western Province in Johannesburg at the WC SASA II Summer Games. In our hall, we had the artwork of our leaners on display as well as a soft play area arranged by our occupational and speech therapy team. We also had ballroom dancers entertaining our guests. We had different vendors, many were sold out and had to replenish their product which means we had a great turnout despite the weather.”
Jamie Williams, Morne Johnson and Joshua Swartbooi. Jamie and Morne played under-16 mixed doubles and took bronze. Jamie took bronze for the under-16 singles, Morne bronze for the under-16 girls and Joshua bronze for the under-16 singles.
