Police in the Eastern Cape have called on the community of Dalasile and the surrounding areas to assist them in tracking down suspects who committed a mass shooting.
The incident left three people: Cebisile Ngqwangele, 39, Zukile Ngqwangele, 50, and Zimisele Ngqutwana, 30, dead, and two others (aged 50 and 70) injured in Mangweni, Ngcobo on Thursday evening.
The provincial police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli said the incident occurred at about 7.30pm.
“Information in police records, it is alleged that at about 7:30 pm, five family members mourning the death of a relative were shot by two armed men, who stormed their Mangweni location home in Dalasile, Ngcobo.”
“Three victims aged between 30 and 50 were fatally wounded, while the other two sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to the hospital. At this stage, the motive for the attack is yet to be established. Police are following all leads,” Nkohli said.
The Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit in Ngcobo is investigating three counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
Acting Police Commissioner, Major General Thandiswa Kupiso, said they have mobilised their full resources to trace and speedily locate the two suspects believed to be involved in this mass shooting.
“We have assembled a team of seasoned detectives who are already on the ground hunting for the suspects. Police are urging the community to assist us in piecing together the events that led to this tragic incident,” Kupiso said.
