A former police officer accused of murdering his 22-year-old girlfriend, Chesnay Patricia Keppler, is expected to find out on Monday whether he will be granted bail when his case returns to the Protea Magistrate's Court.
The 42-year-old sergeant, who was stationed at Eldorado Park police station, is charged with shooting and killing Keppler in the early hours of December 26, 2024, after a domestic dispute.
Keppler, who was a member of the Gauteng Crime Prevention Wardens known locally as amaPanyaza, worked alongside the officer at the same station.
Police watchdog, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid), confirmed the details of the case at the time.
"The officer allegedly fired several shots at his 22-year-old girlfriend through the window at her residence in Eldorado Park, following a domestic dispute. After the incident, the accused officer fled the scene," Ipid spokesperson Lizzy Suping said.
Suping added that the suspect also had a self-inflicted gunshot wound. "As he was about to be arrested during the day, the disgraced police sergeant allegedly shot and injured himself," she said.
