The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has been notified of yet another vehicle recall this week.

Mercedes-Benz South Africa Limited is recalling 102 of its vehicles.

The NCC spokesperson, Phetho Ntaba, said the recall affected four EQE-295 models and 98 GLC-254 models, which were available from 2022 to 2025 and distributed across the country.

“According to Mercedes-Benz, the bolting of the steering coupling might not meet specifications. In this case, the mechanical connection between the steering wheel and steering rack might loosen over time. As a result of the defect, this might lead to a loss of the vehicle's steerability, increasing the risk of an accident,” Ntaba said.

Consumers of the affected vehicles are advised to contact any Mercedes-Benz authorised dealership for a check and a replacement or repair of the affected component.

“Consumers are reminded that product recalls are crucial for safety; thus, it is essential for them to act swiftly. The NCC is actively monitoring all ongoing recalls in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act,” Ntaba said.

Earlier this week, the NCC recalled the Jeep Wrangler and Chrysler 300C. This was after the NCC was notified about faults from Stellantis South Africa (Pty) Ltd.

Ntaba said the supplier has recalled the vehicles due to defective Takata airbags.

“On the affected vehicles, the passenger airbag inflator may rupture during the airbag deployment phase. The rupturing of the airbag inflator may lead to metal fragments passing through the airbag and into the vehicle interior at high speed. This may result in injury or death to vehicle occupants,” Ntaba said.
