A KwaZulu-Natal female pupil has been suspended from school after she was allegedly caught on camera slapping another pupil.
The 53-second video, which has gone viral on social media, shows one pupil accusing the other pupils of gossiping and slaps her at least 10 times.
"What upsets me is that you are taking me for a fool," said the pupil before slapping the girl.
"That's what makes me angry. Why do you gossip about me?," the alleged bully says before slapping the girl again.
The Department of Education has strongly condemned the incident inside the school toilet at Nqabakazulu High School in KwaMashu.
Department spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi said the pupil has been suspended for five days and will appear before the Disciplinary Inquiry Committee on Thursday.
"Thereafter, recommendations will be made to the Head of Department."
He said the District manager has been notified and the matter will be investigated.
Mahlambi said the matter was reported to the school last week.
"Learner to learner violence disturbs us drastically, we are going to be taking drastic disciplinary measures."
KZN MEC for Education, Mr Sipho Hlomuka expressed his deep concern over the incident.
"Bullying as a whole is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated in our schools."
