Rice burgers a hit for McDonald's Taiwan

Published

McDonald's in Taiwan celebrated the 5 million mark on sales of its local hybrid product - rice burgers - saying they might soon be available across the world.

The celebration on Tuesday in Taipei marked landmark sales just six months after rice burgers were added to the fast food chain's local menu, the Taipei Times newspaper reported yesterday.

The group's two toasted rice burgers, with a choice of chicken or beef sandwiched between rice buns, were best-selling items, said Shalom Chen, a senior communications manager for McDonald's Taiwan. Other branches have expressed interest in trying out the products.

McDonald's had experimented in Asia with Japanese-style pork burgers, Korean kimchi burgers and other localised products, but none had been as successful as the rice burgers, Chen said.

Rice burgers have 378 calories each, while a Big Mac has 529 calories.
