Former Minister, former African Union Commission Chair and Chancellor of the University of Limpopo, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of South Africa (Unisa), Professor Puleng LenkaBula will lead engagements at the 3rd Kairos Public Lecture to be held at the Unisa main campus in Pretoria on Thursday, 30 October 2025.
The 3rd Kairos Lecture, to be presented by Dr Dlamini-Zuma, with Professor LenkaBula as a respondent, will be hosted by Unisa and the Fohloza Foundation; and represents a critical intellectual and moral engagement with the continuing relevance of the Kairos tradition in contemporary socio-political and theological discourse.
It emerges from the prophetic witness of the 40th Anniversary of the 1985 Kairos Document, which called on the church to discern and confront systemic injustice, and also reclaims Kairos as a hermeneutical lens through which the present crises of humanity may be interpreted.
Dr Dlamini-Zuma’s address is expected to interrogate the intersection of faith, justice and public ethics within a democratic but deeply unequal society, foregrounding issues such as economic marginalisation, gender justice, ecological degradation and the erosion of human dignity. By situating these within the broader global pursuit of justice and human flourishing, the lecture will also underscore the enduring moral imperative of the Kairos legacy: that every historical moment demands a prophetic response rooted in compassion, ethical responsibility and transformative action for the common good.
