Kagiso Trust extends its heartfelt congratulations to President Cyril Ramaphosa, the South African Government, the Summit Sherpas, the Inter-Ministerial structures, sectoral subcommittees, civil society partners, business leaders and the people of South Africa for the successful hosting of global leaders during the G20 Summit. South Africa has once again demonstrated its capacity for global leadership, diplomatic excellence and nation-building at scale.

The securing of a unified G20 Declaration - accomplished in a period marked globally by geopolitical division and tension – stands as a testimony to the President’s resolute leadership at the global stage, the consistency of South Africa’s diplomatic steadfastness, the keenness of our public servants and the collaborative strength of our nation. This achievement echoes what can become possible when government, society and partners work with integrity, discipline and a shared purpose.

As Kagiso Trust, we commend the spirit of collaboration, resilience and deliberate clearness that reinforced the entire G20 process. We further urge the President and his Government to sustain this similar energy, unity of purpose and pledge as we confront the many structural challenges and opportunities facing South Africa – poverty, unemployment, governance failures, social division  and diminishing public trust. The same resolve that unified the world’s leaders and global community under one declaration must now unite our own nation behind a shared pathway to renewal.

In this spirit, we make a clarion call to translate the tenacity, coordination and commitment demonstrated through the G20 Summit into safeguarding a successful and impactful citizen-led National Dialogue, to which our focus must now turn to – a transformative platform to reset our national development course and to forge a people’s social contract for South Africa’s future. The Government has shown, through the masterful hosting of the G20 preparatory processes and Summit, that excellence is possible, partnership is powerful and collective will can shape outcomes of global significance. We believe firmly that this same national capability can – and must – be reproduced in the National Dialogue process.

Let us now commission the full strength of our constitutional vision for meaningful, inclusive and participatory democracy. Let us draw on the G20 spirit – its confidence, wisdom, unity and self-assurance – to lead the world once more, this time through a model of authentic citizen engagement that charts the course toward a citizen-led, united and prosperous South Africa.

Kagiso Trust stands ready to support this next chapter.Let us build on the momentum. Let us build on the hope.Let us build on the spirit that South Africans galvanized through the G20.
