South Africans were some of the top performers in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL), which drew to a close on Sunday, led by the exploits of Kagiso Rabada and Heinrich Klaasen.

With the ball, Gujarat Titans’ Rabada finished as the top wicket-taker with 29 strikes— one ahead of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

The last time Rabada took over 11 wickets in an entire IPL season was back in the 2022 edition while still playing for Punjab Kings. Of course, his 2025 debut season for GT was marred by his doping suspension for recreational drug use.

In 2026 though, Rabada was back to his best, and his consistency across the season saw him finish top of the pile to win the Purple Cap.

Top SA Bowlers and Batsmen in IPL

The next best SA bowlers on the wicket-takers list were a trio of Proteas in the top 30, with Nandre Burger 20th, Lungi Ngidi 23rd, and Corbin Bosch in 27th.

Marco Jansen was the only other Proteas player in the top 50 at number 41.

With the willow, Klaasen was in the hunt for leading run scorer until a couple of big knocks from his opponents saw him settle in fifth place in the race for the Orange Cap. Klaasen ended with 624 runs at an average of 48 and a strike-rate of 160.

In fact, Klaasen became the first player ever to score over 600 runs batting at number four or lower during an IPL season. That in itself is a massive achievement for the middle-order batsman.

Ryan Rickelton was the next best SA batsman on the run scoring charts with 448 for the Mumbai Indians at an average of 40 and a strike rate of 186.

One of the standout SA batsmen though was Donovan Ferreira in his first full season in the IPL. Turning out for the Rajasthan Royals, Ferreira managed 317 runs at an average of 35 and a strike rate of 179 for 30th place in the standings.

Tristan Stubbs was 39th with 275 runs at an average of 34 and a strike rate of 127. Aiden Markram was 46th with 231 runs at an average of 25.
