Kaizer Chiefs will likely have to do without the services of key defender Aden McCarthy in their highly-anticipated Betway Premiership clash against Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday, if the comments of assistant coach Cedric Kaze are anything to go by.
The 21-year-old McCarthy lasted 35 minutes in Chiefs’ match against Richards Bay last week, before he picked up an injury and was subbed.
Though it will have been eight days since the match against Richards Bay, it’s still unclear whether the youngster will have recovered in time as he has been training.
Speaking on Monday, Kaze said they would make a call on Tuesday.
“About Aden, he hasn’t been training since that day. The medical staff are working hard to put him back on the field, but we will have to wait and see how he does tomorrow to decide whether he will be part of the game or not,” said Kaze as per iDiski Times
Backs Bradley Cross and Nkanyiso Shinga are also battling illness at the moment.
“We have Shinga and Cross who have been sick the last few days. Ighodaro was also injured at training two days ago.
“But apart from that, everyone is well and ready for the game. Those are injuries that have been going on for a long time.”
Chiefs have made the perfect start to their new league campaign with three wins from three, and therefore are one position ahead of the champions who occupy third spot on the log.
Sundowns have won two and drawn one.
