When Yusuf Maart left his role as captain of Kaizer Chiefs for a reported fee of R15 million to join Austrian club SV Ried in July, it now it’s been revealed the amount is much less than that figure.
Now, according to a FarPost report, the figure has been reported to be R2.66 million or €130,000.
That’s clearly a far cry from the initial figure for the attacking midfielder who turned 30 last month.
Maart has since featured in five matches for the club, with three of those coming in starting roles in the league.
Though Maart’s pending departure was no secret in SA footballing circles, Chiefs took their time to officially confirm the reports.
The move brought to an end a three-year spell with Chiefs for Maart. Angolan international Miguel Inacio is earmarked to take over the captain’s armband.
Back home, Chiefs will be putting on the finishing touches for their preparations as they take on Mamelodi Sundowns in the Betway Premiership, at FNB Stadium, on Wednesday.
The hosts will likely have to do without the services of key defender Aden McCarthy though.
The 21-year-old McCarthy lasted 35 minutes in Chiefs’ match against Richards Bay last week, before he picked up an injury and was subbed.
Though it will have been eight days since the match against Richards Bay, it’s still unclear whether the youngster will have recovered in time as he has been training.
Speaking on Monday, Chiefs assistant coach Cedric Kaze said they would make a call on Tuesday.
